The Southern Hawker is one of the largest dragonflies in the United Kingdom with a wingspan of up to 10cm and an overall length of about 7cm. It is very common in southern and central England and Wales often seen 'patrolling' areas of still water or hedgerows. It will fly often right up to you if you walk into its territory and can be seen even on cloudy, rainy days.
