The field below the churchyard is known as ‘The Playfield’ and has had a small stone circle built in it. In the centre of the circle lies the original Sheepstor Bullring. This was found in 1908 when a local farmer, Amos Shillibeer, was ploughing the field. It was re-discovered by his son George after hearing his father's tale. The ring is set in a granite block and was used to tie a bull to for the "sport" of bull baiting by dogs; apparently a common practice in England in the middle ages.
